Job Description

Assouline, the luxury book publisher founded by Prosper and Martine Assouline, has published over 1,500 titles across international markets on subjects including architecture, design, fashion, gastronomy, lifestyle, photography, and travel.

Our design team is seeking a talented and detail-oriented Designer Assistant to support the development of our visually rich luxury titles. As a Designer Assistant, you will play a key role in the creative process from concept through production, working closely with our art director, creative director, editorial team, and publisher. This is an exciting opportunity to apply your design skills in a fast-paced, collaborative, and design-driven environment.

Responsibilities:

  • Assist in the creation of book layouts and visual concepts across print and digital platforms
  • Set up templates, design layouts, and route materials to meet production schedules
  • Review and mark up color proofs and prepare finalized files for printing
  • Conduct in-depth art/image research in collaboration with the editorial team
  • Prepare reprint files and ensure accuracy of production assets
  • Liaise with external vendors including color separators and printers
  • Maintain a high standard of typographic and visual consistency across all titles
  • Stay involved in the entire book production process and contribute ideas for creative problem-solving

Qualifications:

  • Bachelor's degree in Graphic Design or related field
  • 1-2 years of professional design experience, preferably in publishing, fashion, art, or other luxury sectors
  • Exceptional attention to detail and strong organizational skills
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite (InDesign, Photoshop, Illustrator) on Mac OS
  • Strong understanding of typography, layout, and visual storytelling
  • Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously under tight deadlines
  • Interest in culture, fashion, travel, and luxury lifestyle content
  • Online portfolio or samples of work must be included with your application
