The Fish and Wildlife Technician I interim positions within the Farm Bill Program Branch serve as as-needed prescribed fire crew members, working only when conditions allow for safe and effective burns. Notice will be provided as early as possible, sometimes just the day before. Employees must promptly confirm availability when requests are sent.
This is an interim position. An interim position means a position is established to address a one-time or recurring need of less than (9) months duration and exempt from the classified service under KRS 18A.115. Our Fish and Wildlife Technician I’s are eligible for paid leave, paid holidays, and employee discounts.
Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:
Minimum Requirements
EDUCATION: High school graduate.
EXPERIENCE, TRAINING, OR SKILLS: NONE
Substitute EDUCATION for EXPERIENCE: NONE
Substitute EXPERIENCE for EDUCATION: Experience in fisheries or wildlife management will substitute for the required education on a year-for-year basis.
SPECIAL REQUIREMENTS (AGE, LICENSURE, REGULATION, ETC.): Must be able to walk 2 miles while carrying 25 lbs. in 30 minutes and must be able to obtain National Wildfire Coordination Group Fire Fighter Type II certification within the first four weeks of employment.
Working Conditions
Travel, extreme weather conditions, heavy equipment and wildlife may pose hazards.
